LOVE LETTERS

The Playreaders continually enthrall us with their performances.  On September 1st, Betta and Frank Elliott, supported by Anne Benenson, presented an amazing evening with Love Letters from the original text by Gurney. Judith Hawk Directed the show that was produced by Doris Willens Kaplan.

Preceding the performance, Joel May presented a slide show of photos from the real life romance of Betta and Frank.

Here are some photos from the program:

HARVEY

Once again the Meadow Lakes Playreaders regaled us with an unforgettable evening in the reading of "Harvey."  The cast of 13 well-known local actors was led by Stu Hunter as Elwood P. Dowd.

Perfect for the part, Stu kept us entranced and always left us laughing.  The surprise of the evening wearing rabbit ears, was

Jay Zimmer as Harvey, the Pooka.

Phtos of the performance were taken without flash in order not to interfere with the play readers' reading.  Consequently, the quality of the pictures is variable.  Here are some glimpses into the action:

Meadow Lakes is 45 !

Residents and staff of Meadow Lakes gathered in the Main Lounge on
October 19, 2010, to celebrate the 45th anniversary of this, the first CCRC in New Jersey.  Executive Director Jay Zimmer welcomed everyone and offered his thanks for efforts made to enhance daily life in this excellent community.

Following the reception, guests adjourned to the dining room for a Filet and Lobster surf and turf feast. Below are snap shots taken during the reception and dinner. Notice the crowds with the sun shining brightly in and the beautifully appointed dining room.

                         Fun on a Warm Afternoon

The House Committee sponsored an Ice Cream Social in the Lakeside cafe on Wednesday afternoon, June 23rd.  About 120 residents and staff spent time enjoying the variety of flavors and toppings provided by Mr. Alex Vincent, our Catering Manager. There was lemonade and iced tea, too!

The occasion was intended to ensure that residents all know the cafe is now open all day.  It is a delightful, sunny and comfortable place to stop for a cup of coffee or tea and to spend time chatting with friends.

Here are some pictures to show what fun we had!

Opening Song for Wordplay

Let us take you by the hand

to a place called wonderland

Through the looking glass you'll climb

Following us to magic time

Come and join us in our quest

To find wordplay that's the best

From the scenes we knew in the long ago

In a place called Wonderland

We'll meet flowers that can speak

And an egg that is unique

We'll meet critters grave and sad

And more than one who's more than mad

But there's one thing they all share

They love wordplay, so beware,

You must love it too, or you'll hate to be

In a place called wonderland.

Once again, Doris Willens Kaplan treated Meadow Lakes residents to a heart-warming production.  Her genius coupled with Don Smith's incredible musical ability has shown us many a Wonderful  evening.

Kudos to you Doris!

"The Meadow Lakes Follies" presented a delightful program of Gilbert and Sullivan music with original lyrics by Doris Willens Kaplan, Musical Direction by Don Smith, and overall Direction by Judith Hawk, Assistant Director of Resident Activities.  The Narrator was Betta Elliott.

Vocalization was by a company of seven Meadow Lakes residents:  Tony Bianno, Stu Hunter, Doris Kaplan, Bob Kendall, Carl Schorske, Dana Stevenson, and Elizabeth Wadsworth.  We only regret we cannot let you hear their voices again as you look forwad to their next show.

Julie Harp comes to us with 20 years of experience in the Senior Living Industry. Julie refers to herself as a senior living educator and thoroughly enjoys guiding people through the process that leads to making the right life-style decisions.

Julie welcomes her new Meadow Lakes opportunity with open arms.  She can’t wait to make a difference for all in our community.

Jay Zimmer, Executive Director of Meadow Lakes, welcomed our new Marketing Director  at breakfast in the Lakeside Cafe on Monday, June 15, 2009.

Resident Appreciation Dinner - June 4, 2009

In recognition of the efforts of residents to support Meadow Lakes in so many ways, Executive Director, Jay Zimmer, again this year surprised us with a special dinner.  Pictured are residents enjoying the special meal prepared by Chef Angelo Cala and Dining Manager David Gonzalez. A record crowd of 175 residents attended the event on June 4 in the Main Dining Room.

The menu included Carrot Ginger soup, Asparagus wrapped with smoked salmon and drizzled with a roasted pepper mayonnaise, Stuffed Prawn with crabmeat and Tenderloin of Beef au jus, Green bean almandine, and smashed red bliss potatoes with sour cream and chives.  For desert there was a Molten Chocolate Truffle Cake with coffee ice cream and Kahlua sauce.

In the pictures that follow, you will see many of our amazing staff sitting with us at dinner, including Jay Zimmer, our host.  Look for David Gonzalez, Dining Manager, and Mr. Alex Vincent, Catering Manager.  Have you ever seen them sitting in the dining room before?

Wii Sports at Meadow Lakes

The Wii system, which incorporates bowling, boxing, golf, tennis and baseball, came to us through the encouragement of staff members, Stacey Judge and Chris Harman. Wii is set up in the Game Room on lower 13 where residents can try each of the sports. While exercise is part of the venue, each participant can decide for him or herself just how much exercise to get. The games actually can be played sitting down and so provide excellent exercise for those in wheel chairs.

In Wii, the court, course, or playing area for each sport is shown on a TV screen and the golf club or racquet is replaced by a wand, much like a TV wand, which the player swings to create action on the screen.

The grand opening of the Game Room took place on November 25, 2009.  Soon a Wii tournament will be held with enthusiastic participants from among our residents.  Here are Jay Zimmer and Glenn Brewer cutting the ribbon at the Game Room Opening.
