RECYCLING AT MEADOW LAKES

This is our home and we want to keep it Green.

Reycling also saves money since anything that does not go into the landfill doesn't have to be carted there at a cost of $100 per load.

This page describes acceptable recyclingAcceptable means that the vendor who takes our contributions to recycling has a location where the items can go. Right now there is no facility nearby that can take plastic bags or plastic marked with numbers other than

and  .

If you want to know why, read on.
Special equipment is needed to process recyclable material. If a facility of the type needed, that is, one that can take plastics marked with 5 -- or higher than 2 -- is not nearby, the cost to take the material to that plant may be higher than the cost of throwing the items away.
November 15, 2008 was "America Recycles Day."  The occasion was a time to consider ways to cut back on holiday waste.  Americans throw away 25 percent more trash between Thanksgiving and New Years' Day than at any other time of year.  Following Meadow Lakes recycling procedures will contribute positively to reducing holiday waste.

Below is a description of what and how to recycle your used glass, metal, plastic, cardboard and paper.

 COMMINGLED RECYCLABLES

This means:

Clean glass, metal, and plastic containers

Glass means clean food jars and bottles only.

Metal means clean food and drink cans only.

Plastic means clean plastic bottles and jars labeled

OR    only.

Lids, the tops and lids for all bottles and jars.  Just be sure they are clean.

POP TABS

MEADOW LAKES CONTRIBUTED FORTY  POUNDS OF POP TABS TO RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

IN OCTOBER

For more than 3 years, Meadow Lakes residents have collected Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House.

Ronald McDonald House provides a "home-away-from-home" for families

of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.  One means of support for this charity is money earned from recycling “Pop Tabs,” the closures found on soda and beer cans, cat food, Ensure, soup, and vegetables, to name a few.  We ask residents to twist the tab off of every can they use and to put it in the “house” at their mail stop.  Even our letter carrier, Ray, does this for us, and so do many of our children!

We collect only about 25 pounds each year and with your help would like to increase that amount.  The good news is that on October 7 we turned in 40 pounds of pop tabs--our largest contribution ever!

Thanks to all for contributing in this simple, effective way.

 PAPER AND CARDBOARD

These items qualify:

Clean newspapers, magazines, stationery, envelopes, file folders, paper bags, and clean, flattened cardboard boxes.

Used Batteries can be turned in to the Concierge.

Housekeeping accepts for recycling electronic items, old phones, TV's, radios, and ink cartridges.

Everything not listed is trashIf trash is mixed with recyclables, or if containers are not clean, the entire load is contaminated and becomes trash.

So,

Meadow Lakes residents recycle with intelligence!
