THE HISTORY OF MEADOW LAKES in PICTURES

As historical photographs become available they will be posted on this page.

MEADOW LAKES BECOMES AN ARBORETUM

In 2005, Meadow Lakes became the Robert Alonzo Winters Arboretum. Named for the man who found the property and first developed the concept of Meadow Lakes, the Arboretum was dedicated in May 2005. At the time of the dedication, Dr. Robert A. Winters was a resident at Meadow Lakes. He is shown below with Ms. Sharon Eldridge, Executive Director at that time, who presented the dedication to Dr. Winters.

TIME CAPSULE INSTALLED AT FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY

In 2005, Meadow Lakes celebrated its 40th anniversary with an anniversary dinner, parties, games, an art demonstration and other events.  As part of the celebration, a time capsule was filled and hung on the wall in the "History Hallway."  It is planned that the time capsule will be opened at the 50th anniversary celebration.

The Time Capsule is installed in a special cabinet made for us by our friend, Joe Tiedeman, owner of St. Josephs's Cabinetry. Because it is not buried in a cornerstone or the ground, we are able to enjoy it and think about the wonders it will reveal in 2015.

BUILDING OF THE MEADOW LAKES COMPLEX

Under Dr. Robert A. Winters, the property on which Meadow Lakes is built was acquired in 1962.

Construction of Meadow Lakes began in 1963 and the first occupants moved in in 1965.  Richard Chorlton was the architect and the Arthur Venneri Company built the extensive community.

Seen from the air, this is the property as it was prepared for construction.  The Guest House is hidden by trees in the right forefront.  For history of the Guest House, go to About Us. (Click here.)

Below are pictures of the building of Meadow Lakes as it progressed from the original building, the Guest House, to a completed unit of some 40 buildings.
