Health Care at Meadow Lakes

Meadow Lakes is a non-profit, long-term-care provider certified by CARF/CCAC.  Care includes diverse programs and services for adults of all faiths who may live independently or in an assisted living, skilled nursing, or memory care environment. Meeting residents' physical, social, spiritual, emotional, and mental health needs is part of an overall program designed to provide maximum health benefits.

Rooms are attractive, clean and well-furnished. The entire environment creates an atmosphere of comfort.  Patient rooms have outside access to patios and there are central courts for outdoor activities as weather and health permit. Pastoral care is available through the Meadow Lakes Chaplain.

  • Clinic Services
  • Occupations, Physical, and Speech Therapy
  • Patient Activities
  • Personal Assistance Services
  • Private Duty Nursing Services
  • Skilled Nursing Unit
  • Social Services

Assisted Living Unit
Assisted Living is a step between Independent Living and Skilled Nursing. The environment of this unit provides assistance for those who need some help with their daily activities such as dressing, bathing, grooming and eating. Residents in this unit are surrounded by their own furniture and personal belongings. Residents in Assisted Living often volunteer to help other residents in their activities.  Residents share an attractive private dining room and are served meals matching those offered in Independent Living or according to any special diet required.

The Committee on Falling

Falling often contributes to the need for long-term care.  The Committee that devotes time to this matter has recommended the following as ways to help prevent falls.

  • Avoid clutter
  • Avoid using throw rugs
  • Hold on when bending
  • Hold on when reaching above your head
  • Use a wand designed for picking up objects
  • Use a wand for reaching high objects
  • Balance yourself with a cane or walker

Clinic Services
Daily hours are available for those who have appointments or who drop in to the clinic. A nurse practitioner, registered and practical nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA's) and physicians are available for all announced hours.  Appontments can be made outside of regular hours.

For walk-in nursing services, Clinic hours are:
                          8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.  Monday through Friday
                          1:00 Weekends

Physician visits by scheduled appointment (dial 6815)
                          9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. weekdays

Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy
These groups use state-of-the-art techniques with attentive, personalized services geared to bringing residents to their ultimat level of independence--and everyone has fun in this friendly environment.

Patient Activities
Patient Activities for those who live within Health Care are planned with patients in mind and have variety and creativity built in.  A full calendar of activities is available for those who wish to participate.

Personal Assistance Services
Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA's) and LPN's are available for residents to assist with Independent Living. It is a great convenience to use Meadow Lakes-employed assistants whose experience and skills are known to our own nursing staff making it unnecessary to go to an outside agency to obtain daily assistance.

Private Duty Nursing Services
Residents whose health requires care but who choose not to move to the Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing units may remain in their own apartments with hourly or round-the-clock nursing care under a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). These residents have regular visits with the professional staff in the Clinic as well.

Skilled Nursing Unit
Both short and long term care are offered in this unit. Those recovering from surgery such as joint replacement may stay here and obtain physical and occupational therapy as needed. There is a great convenience to having these services all under one roof and to being close to friends at Meadow Lakes while receiving quality rehabilitation on site.

Social Services
Residents are admitted to Meadow Lakes Health Care through the Social Services Department. The full program of social services under the direction of an accredited social worker includes follow up with each person admitted to ensure care is being carried out effectively. The Social Services Director holds family meetings with residents annually and at other times on request.  In conjunction with an interdisciplinary team that includes the physician, nursing supervisor, Physical Therapy Director, and Activities Director, the Social Services Director develops a care plan for each patient. With this team, the Director also ensures that care is given according to the plan. For patients going home, Social Services is responsible for discharge planning to further effective health management when the resident is at home.

Specialized Memory Impairment Unit
Sixteen private rooms, a spacious dining room and lounge area, exercise space as well as an outdoor patio make up the state-of-the-art memory unit known as Meadowside. The warm, comforting environment is enjoyed by the residents who lead an active life. They have caring staff whose special training has prepared them for the varieties of needs that are common among these residents.  Programming is especially organized for people with memory loss.

Evaluation of Services
A physician is available in the Meadow Lakes Skilled Nursing Unit on site five days a week and on call around the clock every day. This and other staffing exceed the NJ State requirements.  In fact, staff levels for all positions, nurses, aides (CNA's), physicians are well-above what is required and what other organizations provide.

In the summer of 2008, a survey was distributed to Meadow Lakes residents by
"My InnerView," a research company specializing in the evaluation of assisted living and skilled nursing environments. In many aspects of the evaluation, including variety of meals, competence of staff, quality of staff, privacy and responsiveness of management, My Innerview reported that Meadow Lakes received more "excellent" responses than most other New Jersey facilities and nationwide units as well.

Residents, patients, and families notice the cleanliness of the facility, the quality of care and comfortable, home-like envirnoment provided. Here are quotes from some
of the Health Care residents and a volunteer:
Meadow Lakes resident Dr. Peggy Van Horn, M.D.:  "Nurses, aides, cleaning staff, and therapists work together as a team to maintain a pleasant and effective environment for the patients. . ."

"The courtyards are beautiful.  I love to sit in sunshine alley and just look at my favorite tree."    Barbara Youngdahl

"My aide takes very good care of me.  I know I am in good hands when she is here.   She treats with me with such kindness.  I can tell she genuinely likes me as much as much as I like her."     Ruth Shapiro

"I can’t imagine another place that has more angelic people working there."   Natalie Paige

"Everyone is friendly!"  Bob McQuade

"Everything is done that could possibly be done to make people our age active.   The Activity Department is very good at that!"  Terri McQuade

"The Physical Therapy Department and the Activities Department are the greatest parts of the Health Care center.   They work!"    Shirley Gary

"The staff are very pleasant.  There is always plenty to do."

Eleanor Rogers

"The Activity Department keeps us very busy.  They keep our minds alive.  There is something for everyone.  I especially like Art class.  She encourages me and is open and accepting of everything we do."   Jane Beier
