HomeFront Artists are on display

A selection of paintings, poetry, and drawings done by participants in a HomeFront art class are on display now through July in the Meadow Lakes Art Gallery.

Art is an important avenue of expression for those who are homeless.  It helps to break the cycle of poverty for those who depend on HomeFront for assistance. At right are two examples of paintings done by members of a HomeFront art class.

One Woman Art Show

The second one-woman art show was displayed in the Meadow Lakes Art Gallery during April. The artist, Mary Paynter, has a series of pastels and oils that are remarkable for their brilliance.  The portraits speak to the viewer with sincerity and simplicity.

Mary Paynter is from a family of painters, a life style that influenced her decision to major in art at Virginia Commonwealth University and the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles.  Mary says that her pastel portraits are drawn from life and that she uses photographs to guide her work in oils. Her work, including landscapes in oil.

The Story of the Meadow Lakes Art Gallery

The first major show in the new Meadow Lakes Art Gallery was the 43rd New Jersey Senior Citizens Annual Art Contest and Exhibition. The event was open to the public during October 2009 with a closing reception and award ceremony, workshops, and gallery talks on the last day of the month.

Entry into the show was limited to the winners selected by the judges at each New Jersey county's art show. Meadow Lakes residents look forward to holding this successful show again next year.

The PHS Senior Living Foundation contributed a Walker Display System  to create the Meadow Lakes Art Gallery. Located between the Lakeside Cafe and the Bridge, the gallery is to be a permanent showplace for art from a variety of sources including work of our own residents.
